teeth whitening using a laserTeeth Whitening is one of the easiest ways to improve the overall look of your smile and in Marbella it is affordable and readily available with quite a few options to choose from.

Modern teeth whitening methods are very effective and most treatments can be completed in one visit to the dentist.Tooth Whitening is achieved by removing as much staining as possible from your teeth by a variety of techniques ranging from natural products to chemical and laser teeth whitening methods performed by cosmetic dentists.

Most artificial methods rely on some form of peroxide to remove stains by releasing oxygen to bleach the pigmented substances in your teeth enamel turning them white.  This method restores the natural colour of the teeth without damaging the surface enamel.Whitening toothpastes contain mildly abrasive components which scrub away surface stains leaving teeth looking cleaner and whiter. They do not have a bleaching action and are generally not as effective as other methods of teeth whitening.

If you have decided to go for laser teeth whitening, before starting any procedure the dentist or hygienist will thoroughly clean your teeth (scale and polish) to remove any surface stains or tartar. The bleaching compound usually contains a high concentration of peroxide so the dentist will usually place some form of protection around the gums so that only the teeth are exposed. A cheek retractor is used to keep the lips and cheeks away from the teeth and eye protection is also provided to prevent any damage to the eyes from the laser used or any accidental splashes of the peroxide.

Many cosmetic practices in Marbella now offer DVD glasses so that the patient can watch a movie during their treatment. The whitening gel is applied to the surface of the teeth and exposed to a light or laser for approximately one hour which speeds up the whole process making the whitening more effective. The results are usually quite dramatic and many patients’ teeth are quite sensitive for about 48 hours following this procedure.   It is advisable to avoid hot or cold drinks for a while.

Home whitening kits provide more permanent (but not such dramatic) results over a longer period of time, but laser whitening offers immediate results. A combination of the two provides the perfect solution to both immediate and long-term whitening.
