hair transplant There are many causes for hair loss in men and women including stress, illness and dermatological scalp disorders.

There is also a common hereditary condition called androgenetic alopecia which is best known as male baldness.  Some of the less common causes of hair loss which can be treated include thyroid disease, iron deficiency, high fever, surgery or general anesthesia, crash diets, childbirth, and certain medications.

If you suffer from hair loss in the form of a bald patch, thinning hair, or a receding hairline then you will benefit from hair transplantation.

As a general rule you can lose 50% of your hair density before you begin to notice any hair loss. A hair transplant is a safe, minor surgical procedure that involves removing hair from the back or sides of the scalp (donor area) and placing them into the bald or thinning areas of the scalp (recipient area). Hair transplants offer a permanent solution to hair loss and should look perfectly natural with single hairs used to recreate a natural hairline while follicular units (naturally occurring groups of hair) are used to give density behind the hairline.

A thinning area on the head may need only one transplant while a bald area may need two treatments to achieve density. The procedure can take up to six hours from start to finish and there is no recovery time necessary after hair transplantation surgery. Hair thinning (shock loss) is a common side effect during the first ten days after the procedure but that is usually temporary. Bald patches are also common as fifty to a hundred hairs can be lost each day. Apart from some initial soreness and swelling there are no painful side effects.  If your scalp starts itching a moisturiser or shampoo may be used to relieve this.

The transplanted hair normally starts to grow gradually after around three months eventually taking on the exact thickness and characteristics
