Spanish Hairstyles
There are a million and one ways to style your hair and it is important that you get it right as a hairstyle can help to accentuate or draw away from certain facial characteristics.
The wrong hairstyle can distort your features by changing the shape of your face. A simple rule of thumb is that hair should be wide where your face is narrow and should have length where your face is square.
Following are some tips on styles that can make the most of your particular features:
- Putting a side parting in the hair will slim and lengthen a round face.
- Hair should be worn below the chin line, as if is on or above it will make your jaw look heavier.
- Curls or fullness at the sides will widen a long or thin face.
- A large and full hairstyle or upswept crown makes a large nose less noticeable.
- Wavy or curly hair will soften angular cheekbones, nose or jaw.
- A fringe will cover a high forehead, balancing the face.
- A short cut with soft curls takes attention away from the chin.
- Long hair with fullness at the chin balances a narrow chin.
- Vertical lines and soft fullness at the crown can lengthen the face.
- An oval face is often seen as the ideal as it suits almost any hairstyle
- If you have a heart shaped face choose a hairstyle that emphasizes the jaw line and narrows around the forehead. Avoid straight and thin styles.
- Square faces need a hairstyle that creates the illusion of length to your face. Avoid a square fringe as soft edges, curls and layers are all flattering for a square face.
If you are unsure just what shape your face is (round, oval, heart-shaped, or angular) look in the mirror and pull your hair off your face and look at its outline and the size and shape of your forehead compared to your chin. Often your face is noticeably square, oblong or oval, but if you’re still not sure trace the outline of your face on to the mirror with a lipstick or soap and when you step back you will be able to clearly see your face shape.
When choosing a hairstyle remember that hair grows faster in the sun and short styles often need frequent trims (but can be cooler in the hot sun).
