Spanish Chiropody
A chiropodist (now often called a podiatrist) is a health professional who deals with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of medical and surgical conditions of the feet and lower limbs. So chiropody / podiatry is a medical treatment and not a cosmetic service, but after treatment the feet often look and feel so much better.
Feelings in your feet can be a sign of your general health so make sure you are alert to warning signs. Feet are prone to aches and pains and a variety of problems including corns and calluses, bunions and in-growing toenails.
Most foot problems are easy to avoid and simple to treat but it is important to visit a chiropodist if you suffer from chronic or recurrent foot pain as pain in your feet can be an early sign of arthritis, diabetes or nerve and circulatory disorders.
Below are some examples of what a chiropodist can advise on and treat:
corns, callouses, verrucas, in-growing toenails and fungal infections
skin disorders/infections
footwear advice
nail surgery
sports injury management (sprains, heel pain, stress fractures)
orthotic devices/arch supports
management of foot problems and deformities caused by diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and advising and treating patients at high risk of foot problems and amputations such as sufferers of Achilles tendinopathy
foot posture related injuries such as ankle, shin, knee, low back pain
Chiropodists often work in conjunction with a GP, or at a Health care centre or clinic. There are also a number of private clinics in Marbella offering a wide range of services from qualified podiatrists.
