osteopathyOsteopathy is a method of detecting and treating damaged parts of the body by focusing on the musco-skeletal system which includes muscles, ligaments, nerves and joints. Osteopaths treat a variety of conditions including changes to posture during pregnancy, babies with colic or sleeplessness, repetitive strain injury, postural problems caused by driving or work strain, arthritis and sports injuries by using soft and deep tissue massage, stretching, joint mobilization and manipulations.

During your first visit the osteopath will ask questions to collect a full medical history and information on your lifestyle including work and leisure activities. You will also be given a physical examination and be asked to perform a simple series of movements so that they can evaluate your mobility and identify any postural imbalance, excess strain, weakness or specific injury.

Osteopaths use their hands both to discover the underlying causes of discomfort and to carry out treatment with non-invasive techniques. They can also give advice on how to maintain a realistic level of health and avoid things that may be damaging.

Many conditions benefit from osteopathy including the release of tension that has built up in your body as a consequence of stress. The list below indicates which problems are most commonly treated by osteopathy:
  • Back pain
  • Stiffness in joints
  • Postural imbalance
  • Headaches
  • Sciatica
  • Neck pain
  • Sports related injuries
  •  Muscular sprain
Treatments usually last up to half an hour and normally between 2 and 6 sessions are required. Many patients decide that they would like to have periodic preventative treatments to avoid recurring problems.
