varicose veins

Vascular surgery is used to resolve problems with the arteries and veins:  such as varicose veins. Vascular surgery can be used to treat the following problems.

Aneurysms are usually treated by an operation on the abdomen where the aneurysm is replaced with an artificial artery. Micro-Injection-Sclero-Therapy of Thread Veins where an irritant solution is injected into the thread veins (also called spider veins).  The fine thread vein can disappear as soon as six weeks after the treatment, but with larger veins occasionally there may be brownish skin-staining which can take up to two years to clear. Varicose veins occur in both men and women, with the most common cause being genetic. They are twists and swellings of the veins close to the skin in the legs. Blood normally circulates continuously through the body helped by valves in the veins, but when these valves do not work effectively they leak and the back flow and pressure of the blood in these veins causes the swelling.

Symptoms of varicose veins include pain, aching, cramp and ulceration. Laser technology can now be used for treatment of varicose veins which can be performed under local anaesthetic and involves a much shorter recovery time. Laser vein therapy is safe and effective for all skin types and colours. It is carried out by the laser delivering a measured dose of heat to each vein in a series of brief pulses. The heat is absorbed by the blood vessels (not the surrounding tissue) and causes them to coagulate and absorb into the body. The vein is then destroyed but it can take one to two weeks for the vein to disappear completely from the treated area.

Normal activities can normally resume immediately after laser vascular treatment, although rigorous activity should be avoided for 24 hours. Any bruising usually disappears within a week.  For more information on vascular surgery in the Marbella area of Spain visit www.marbellavein.com
